SAE washers or high tensile washers, in the size range of 1/4" to 3", can also be available in plain or Dacromet finishes.
Plain washers refer to washers with no additional coating or finish applied to their surface. They are typically made from materials such as steel or stainless steel. Plain washers provide basic protection against corrosion and act as a smooth bearing surface for the fastener.
Dacromet is a type of coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance. It is a thin, non-electrolytic coating primarily composed of zinc and aluminum flakes in an inorganic matrix. Dacromet coatings offer high durability and resistance to various environmental conditions, including salt spray, moisture, and chemicals. The coating also provides a consistent, uniform appearance.
When SAE washers or high tensile washers are specified as "Plain/Dacromet," it means that these washers can be available with either a plain finish (without any coating) or a Dacromet finish (with a Dacromet coating) depending on the specific requirements or preferences of the application.
Both plain and Dacromet finishes have their advantages, and the choice between the two depends on factors such as the level of corrosion resistance needed, environmental conditions, and the desired appearance of the finished product.
